The Further Adventures of a Beardy Runner
Beep goes the timing mat. I have just run a sub 2 hour half marathon but I still have 2 kilometres to go. Thus I enter the longest 2 kilometres of my life.
Even since the Great Ocean Road took that first bend at Kennet River, some 18km back, I have watched Apollo Bay grow in size and detail from a squiggle of civilisation in the distance, to the retirement homes, B&B’s and artisan galleries that populate the outskirts of Apollo Bay of which I am now running past. I am literally on the home straight – although my pedant friend cum running protege would correct me and state that it is more of a curve than a straight – but he is not running this year!!!
